Introducing the Strawberry Plants Hand Embroidery Project (March 2024's Hopebroidery Box)

Here’s what subscribers to the Hopebroidery Box are stitching with me in March!

In today’s post, I take you through how I created this design and how I’ll help you to recreate this design with me in March!

Ready to get your hands on this project for yourself? Jump ahead to the end of this post, and let’s start stitching!

How I created the Strawberry Plants hand embroidery design

To create March’s sample hoop, I began by sketching fruits, choosing a fabric color, and grabbing a handful of Sublime Stitching floss I thought might work nicely with this month’s concept.

Hope holds up an embroidery project in process, which features three simple strawberries, vines, and leaves drawn onto a cut of “Grellow” cotton fabric with a simple pencil. She’s wearing bright red fingernail polish and is holding the project against a room in which there are various blurred out craft supplies, books, and jars.

During this initial process, I’m also working to create a project where the concept and colors go nicely with the project just before this (i.e., February’s Daffodils and Rosebuds project, now available in the shop), the project I’ll be creating next month (the fabric and theme for which I’ve chosen), and the projects for this year’s box in general.

Five cardboard bobbins on top of a dark green surface. The bobbins have floss wound around them in shades of pink, white, and green.

I do this because I’m interested in creating projects you can stitch along with me month-by-month or in whatever sort of order you prefer. By designing each box project with past and future projects in mind, my hope is whatever you choose to stitch with me will, ultimately, serve as some sort of cohesive “collection” on your wall–even if you’re not stitching with me in this same order!

Luckily for me, this project came together fairly quickly. In fact, I only had to cut everything out and start the project all over just once!

Six embroidery projects stacked on top of one another against a dark green surface. The projects include: two bright yellow lemons stitched onto a dark blue linen fabric; a large pink strawberry surrounded by florals in green and white on a mustard linen fabric; a simple lemon, pear, and strawberry surrounded by florals and stitched in shades of green, yellow, pink, and white, on pink cotton fabric; a large orange stitched onto dark orange linen fabric; three simple strawberries surrounded by vines and flowers in shades of pink, green, and white, on a “grellow” shade of cotton fabric; and a simple blueberry bush surrounded by pink accents on a bright yellow cotton fabric.

Ultimately, I ended up with what I think is not just a great addition to this year’s collection of box projects, but to my growing collection of “fruit hoops” in general! In the photo above, you can see the project along with previous box projects as well as projects from my book, Satisfying Stitches: Learn Simple Embroidery Techniques and Embrace the Joys of Stitching by Hand!

How I'll help you to recreate this design with me in March!

I’ll help you to recreate this design with me as part of the March 2024 Hopebroidery Box, which includes physical supplies and detailed, beginner-friendly, step-by-step instructions.

Supplies

To create this design we’ll be using five shades of Sublime Stitching floss on this Kona cotton fabric in the color “Grellow.” You’ll be learning two ways to stitch lines and curves for following simple shapes and creating vines; how to stitch leaves using the detached chain stitch; and loads of other stitches for creating interesting and colorful accents!

As always, subscribers will receive the supplies you’ll need to complete this project in your physical boxes, including:

  • full skeins of Sublime Stitching embroidery floss;

  • a large cut of this month’s fabric;

  • embroidery needles and my favorite metal needle threader;

  • a pencil for transferring  your pre printed pattern to fabric;

  • four inch bamboo embroidery hoop; and

  • a pair of embroidery scissors from Kelmscott Designs curated specifically for this project.

If you’re curious, you can take a closer look at the sorts of supplies I include in your boxes by watching the video below, where I take you through all the supplies I included in subscribers’ November 2023 boxes!

Instructions

Although I am incredibly proud of the supplies and care put into each of your physical boxes, the instructions themselves are the true stars of this show!

Specifically, you’ll receive a beginner-friendly digital hand embroidery pattern, which includes a link to your project’s instructions via a thorough video tutorial on the very first page, as well as additional step-by-step instructions in multiple formats for ease of use no matter your learning style.

To get a better sense of what’s included in the digital portion of each month’s project, be sure to check out the listing for the Daffodils and Rosebuds pattern, originally released last month and now available on its own in the shop!

Get your hands on this Strawberry Plants hand embroidery project!

New subscribers have until the end of February 2024 to sign up in time to get this project at the subscriber rate, and your box will ship in very early March. If you haven’t subscribed yet, be sure to do so by the end of February!

If you’re here after that deadline, or maybe you’re not interested in the subscription model, you can totally still stitch this with me! I’ll be adding this project as both a physical kit (with or without this month’s scissors) and digital pattern (included with the physical kit, but perfect on its own if you already have plenty of your own supplies) in my shop!

I'm so excited for this project, and I can't wait to see what you make!

If you’d like to receive updates about this and future projects, as well as tutorials, blog posts, and more, be sure to sign up to receive email updates from me–it’s the best way to stay in touch, by far!

Happy stitching!
